Anyone looking for a Missing Robert QUICK born about 1857?
Well - if you happen to find him then please let me know! ;D
HOWEVER - I do now have some clues that might help.
The story starts almost 20 years ago when I was researching part of the TREWHELLA family in Australia.
This discussion could equally belong in the TREWHELLA thread but ...
A descendant of Henry TREVELA (Trewhella var.) m. Jane GRENFELL whom I met about 20 years ago is responsible for this.
George told me that 'a cousin' by name of George BOULTON had come out to Western Australia about 1911.
This 'cousin' was named George BOULTON.
For GANDOLF - - there is also a ROSEWALL connection here. (I will not pursue that because the marriage happened in 1950 and .......
George BOULTON was born (according to my source) in 1895 although the place was unknown.
Parents were John QUICK BOULTON and Mary Matilda TREWHELLA who married in 1886 Penzance R.D.
Mary Matilda was d/o William TREWHELLA and Mary Ann (nee CLATWORTHY) who have been mentioned in other threads.
John QUICK BOULTON was apparently born at Towednack but was baptised 19th February 1868 St Ives Primitive ethodist Circuit.
He was son of Albert BOULTON, sailor, who was born Portsmouth about 1836.
The mother was Catherine QUICK who was baptised St Ives 24th February 1839 d/o Paul QUICK and Mary Ann (nee NINNES).
I have had a lot of difficulty finding more about this part of the family and that is largely due to the various spellings of the name 'BOULTON' which I have now seen as 'BOLTON', 'BOULTEN', 'BOULDEN', BAWDEN', etc.
But I have now managed to find a little more information via the Census records.
Albert BOULTON was a sailor and so, like others we have discussed, just happened to be away on Census night.
Albert BOULTON m. Catherine QUICK 7th January 1860 at St Ives (St Ives OPRs)
In the 1871 Census at Stennack, St Ives
Catherine BOLTON, head, mar, 33, mariner's wife, St Ives
ROBERT Q do., son, 14, farm labourer, St Ives
Joseph H do., son, 10, St Ives
John Q do., son, 3, St Ives
Joseph H married Sarah Ann B Stevens in 1884 but I have yet to work further on that line.
John Q is the man who married Mary Matilda TREWHELLA.
But then we have ROBERT Q to deal with!
Try as I might I could find no record of him other than the 1871 Census.
But then I had another look (after a little rest ) and it suddenly struck me that there was someting 'not quite right' about all of this.
"No Suger Sherlock!" I said to myself - this blighter was born about four years before the marriage of his parents!
I still persisted to no avail until I decided to take another look at the 1861 Census! ;D

QUICK Mary Ann Dau - F 11 Scholar Cornwall - St Ives
QUICK Robert Son - M 4 Cornwall - St Ives
BAWDEN Albert Sonlaw M M 24 Sailor Hampshire - Portsmouth
And here is Robert QUICK listed as 'son of' the widowed Mary Ann QUICK and he is seven years younger than his next elder sibling. (Of course there may have been others but ... )
In the 1871 Census ROBERT Q BOLTON is now a son of Catherine which means that he was actually the illegitemate son of Catherine.
And that explains why I could not find the blighter in FreeBMD.
But the next problem ......
What happened to this fella after 1871?
There are other aspects of this family that I am having difficulty with but I have at least managed to get this part sorted in some sort of reasonable fashion.
I still cannot find a birthplace for George BOULTON (var.) and I cannot find John Quick or Catherine BOULTON (var.) after 1881.
In fact, I cannot find John Quick BOULTON (var.) at all after 1871!
Unconfuse yourselves from this and I would appreciate comments, thoughts, information etc.
BTW - a daughter of my original informant of this lot was named with the benefit of three Celtic names.
First Christian name was from the Welsh. (O___n)
Second Christian name from the Scots. (F___a)
Surname from the Cornish. (TREWHELLA)
I met her not long after I had met her father George about 20 years ago.
In fact, George actually visited me when he was over on holiday from Western Australia.
