If anyone has any info on the Trevarthen family who where in St Erth 1750-1820 would be delighted to hear from them. Particularly interested in Henry Trevarthen 1777 who married 3 times I believe - Christian Gundry - Honor Freethy - Ann Bennetts
Also very interested in the Gundry family Henry 1734 born Breage married Mary Cock in 1764 - they had children most born St Erth 1769-1784. One of them being Christian above who married Henry Trevarthen. Son Thomas married and lived at Bosworgy. Mary Gundry (nee Cock) died there. Someone has contacted me via Genes and thinks this Gundry family was connected with Wheal Vor so I am revisiting and updating my records.
Many thanks.

Henry TREVARTHEN bp. 28th December 1777 St Erth s/o Richard and Ann (nee HOSKIN) m. Christian GUNDRY 18th June 1803 at St Erth Children - Henry (1807), Mary (1809), Mary Ann Gundry (1810) and Nancy (1813). Christian TREVARTHEN buried 23rd February 1817 at St Erth - age 40 Henry TREVARTHEN, wid., m. Ann BENNETTS 27th February 1819 at St Erth Children - Christiana (1819), Jane (1829) (There may be more but I have not searched beyond this St Erth information.) There is a two-year gap between the burial of Christian and the marriage to Ann so it is 'possible' that this same Henry might have married Honor FREETHY. I currently have the marriage to Honor FREETHY in my database but it is a separate and unattached entity at the moment. That marriage occurred 27th September 1817 at St Erth. Son Richard (only child I have for them) was baptised 27th September 1818 at St Erth. But I can find no burial for Honor TREVARTHEN so would appreciate details if you have them please. That, combined with no mention of Henry being widowed, is probably why I had never associated this marriage being for the same Henry who married Christian GUNDRY. He was certainly recorded as a 'widower' when he married Ann BENNETTS. My database currently shows that Henry TREVARTHEN was buried at St Erth 2th September 1837 age 59 'of Breage'. And I have no further information for Ann BENNETTS at this time. From what I can find so far it would appear that Honor FREETHY was probably the following:- Honor d/o Ralph and Mary FREETHY bp. 11th March 1787 at Perranuthnoe If that is the correct girl then it may be she was buried at Perranuthnoe?? Confirmation (or otherwise) of these details would be of help. This is all information I was working on several years ago when I first obtaind Transcripts of the St Erth PRs. CT

I'm not sure how relevant this is, but I do have a Mary TREVARTHEN in the neighbouring parish of Crowan who married John LOBB 6 Jan 1748/49.
Mary was the daughter of a Henry and Mary TREVARTHEN who were married Crowan 21 Oct 1721, although their family would all appear to have been baptized in Sithney as follows: Henery bap. 14 Aug 1722, Richard bap.1 Sep 1725 , Mary bap. 26 Aug 1727, Alice bap. 19 Apr 1731, Joseph bap. 26 Dec 1733.
(I note there is an 'base-born' William TREVARTON, son of a Mary TREVARTON, baptized in Sithney 7 Apr 1740, but I'm not sure how they are linked.)
Henry TREVARTHEN I've traced back to the family of Robert TREVARTHEN, all baptized in Crowan, as follows: Dorithybap. 20 Feb 1682/83. Robert bap. 10 Jan 1691/92?, Henry bap. 7 Oct 1694, Mary bap. 19 Nov 1697.
I'm not sure how, if at all, these are linked to the later St Erth family but any comment or confirmation would be welcome.

Roger - as mentioned in my last Henry TREVARTHEN was, I believe, the son of Richard TREVARTEN who married Ann HOSKIN at St Erth 5th June 1770.
Richard I believe to be the one baptised at St Erth 5th January 1747 son of Henry and Elizabeth.
I have not yet tried to pursue this line but a quick look shows the likely marriage being that of Henry TREVARTON and Elizabeth PHILIPS at Gwinear 4th August 1745.
That is the only likely one in IGI (the above from Phillimore) but it is possible there may be others that IGI does not have recorded.
How that might fit with Crowan I do not know.

Cornish Terrier Agree with what you say about Henry Trevarthen 1777 and his family. He had 15 children in all with the 3 marriages. To his first marriage where you have 4 add Janie buried 13.12.1826 age 13 living Breage. This does not appear on the opc records but has been sent to me - so I can only check it out from original in time.
To 2nd marriage Honor Freethy - Richard 29.09.1818 St Erth he married Harriet Pellow 17.01.1842 and lived in Gulval with his wife. one daughter Honour Freethy 1844/4 c 29.12.1844 I have been advised that Richard c Sept 1818 was also privately bapt Oct 1818 at Perranuthnoe so perhaps - Honour is buried there as you say. I used to live in Perranuthnoe!
Children to 3rd marriage Ann Bennets. Christian 1819 St erth Elizabeth 1821 Germoe James 1822 Jane 1824 Christian 1828 Jane 1829 St erth Sarah Ann 1833 Breage William Henry 1825 germoe Joseph1833 Breage I also calculate that his 3rd wife Ann Bennets (a much younger model) is his cousin being that she if the daughter of Elizabeth Trevarthen1749 Phillack who married Henry Bennets in 1776 she is the sister of Richard 1747 who married Ann Hoskin and father of Henry 1777

Donne Thanks for info. I have the same info as you also this is as far as I have got back to Henry 1694 and his siblings. And the same siblings as you mentioned for Henry 1722 including Mary 1727 Sithney. I have added your possible marriage ot John Lobb 1748/9 however I also noted a potential marriage to Francis Richards 24.06.1744 - that was in Sithney. I had noted the base child William when she appears to be 13 - but seems a good match
I think it matches well that Henry 1694 Crowan Henry 1722 Sithey Richard 1747 St Erth is the right lead to the St Erth grouping.
Many thanks.

I need to query this because of an entry I have found in my old copies of the St Erth Transcripts:- Jane TREVARTHEN age 2 of Breage buried 3rd December 1826 Age is different and 10 days difference in the date but there is too much similar here and I think this is possibly the same child. Would appreciate some confirmation of this if possible. AHA - here may be the answer:- Note that there is a daughter Jane baptised in 1824 - I believe this will be the one buried in 1826 at the age of two and that there may possibly be an error in the information you received. And I also show another daughter Jane baptised to Henry and Ann at St Erth 26th April 1829. I did not have the other children as I did not have PRs for those Parishes at the time. Will make those additions in a few moments. CT

I agree its confusing - I'm just not sure about Janie born 1813 because the OPC doesn't shows a burial 13.12.1826 but the info sent to me is quite specific about her being age 13 - so I can only check on original when opportunity comes. The burial 03.12.1826 is definately Jane Trevarthen C 30.05.1824 daughter of Henry and Ann born Germoe as it quotes on the records at St Erth as age 2. And they where living in Breage as it states. I have still a lot more work to do on this however there is also an Elizabeth Trevarthen buried 03.06.1833 St Erth age 24 which would but her born about 1808 . Age wise she would fit as a child to the first marriage of Henry but no record of the baptism to confirm. It would make sense born year before Mary 1809 because Mary 1809 died and next child called Mary but no record of her death. Nancy is also confusing I wonder if the entry was Nancy or Nanny? Nanny Trevarthen Married Nicholas Lukey 1837 - father Henry. Over the years she called her self Nanny/Nanny/Ann/Ann/ then died as Nanny - her age quite consistent as born about 1812/3 However she did call her daughter Mary Grundy Lukey which is a bit like the name of her sister born 1810@ for which no burial. I therefore remain open minded!

Hi Cap'n, Thanks for the info on the Francis RICHARDS marriage - on reflection I think that is probably a sounder link to the Sithney Mary TREVARTHEN than my John LOBB suggestion. I was grasping at straws since I can find no Mary TREVARTHEN birth in Crowan at this time although my Phillimore's tells me that there were several potential marriages such as: - Robert TREVARTHEN/Catherine 23 Oct 1718
- George TREVARTHEN/Catherine 28 Jan 1720
- Henry TREVARTHEN/Mary 21 Oct 1721
- William TREVARTHEN/Grace 10 Sep 1726
I should probably look to these families for the link to my Mary, without crossing the border to Sithney.

I have a lot more work to do on this family so will look at this again however there is a Mary born 1727 Camborne who may have married John Lobb 1748 - some of her siblings married Crowan.
That would leave Mary 1727 1st Daughter of Henry 1694 Crowan tho married Mary to have had William base child then marry Francis Richards 1744 Sithney as did her siblings - not sure may be worth trying to work out if a Francis and Mary had children in Sithney and/or if a John Lobb and Mary had kids is Crowan or Camborne. Bit late tonight!

Anyone know @ Thomas Trevarthen bc 1856-57 Crowan, who married Mary Amelia Bartle Dec 22, 1877 Crowan? I have his father as Richard but no other info.
Thos & Mary Amelia had at least 6 children: Maude b1879 Crowan Thos Kendle b1880 " Edda Ann b 1881 " Amelia G b1883 "/d Jul 28 1917, Drym, Crwan Jane b 1885 " Elizabeth b 1886 "
Mary Amelia Bartle b 1858-59, St Erth, was the dau of Edward Bartle & Harriet Edwards
I may have a cabinet photo of Mary Amelia and 4 of her 5 dau's taken c 1894-96 @ Trevaskis studio Leedstown. There's an accompanying photo of a woman by herself who appears to be the sister of the woman in the other photo. I think it may be Grace Bartle b 1857 (who I can't find after the 1881 census) or Harriet Bartle Hocking Jennings, born 1854-55. But Harriet had two children and it seems odd they wouldn't be in the photo with her.
Am thinking it's Grace @ the time she may have gotten married later in life (she's wearing a ring) bec in 1881 she was still single.

Anna - I don't have the baptism details but my records show the man you are looking for as:-
Thomas Trevarthen born Crowan about 1855/6 son of Richard Trevarthen and Elizabeth Rodda who were married in the Helston R.D. in 1846.
That is all I have at the moment.
