Hi Sarah - yes, if you don't mind, a copy might be useful while I continue investigating this.
I thought I had found something of use a little while ago but it now appears it may have been a 'red herring'.
There was a marriage in the Swansea R.D. in December Qtr 1886 for a Richard Charles HARRY.
Possible wives were Mary Anne GRIFFITHS or Rosa BOSLEY.
I could not (at least not yet) find them in 1891 but I think I have now found them in the 1901 Census.
Richard C HARRY was, according to this Census, born at St Albans, Hertfordshire, about 1867 and his wife was Mary A.
So it was Mary Anne GRIFFITHS involved in the marriage but everything else is wrong.
Searching FreeBMD for any events involving Richard Charles HARRY is also an interesting excercise and I think it worthwhile keeping the above events in mind.
The first of this name that appears is the Birth in St German's R.D. of 'your' Richard.
And then in Wareham R.D. in 1878 we have the Birth and Death of a young Richard Charles.
In 1880 at Wareham R.D. we have the birth for another Richard Charles who I would think would be obviously a replacement for the above.
And then we have the 1886 Marriage I have mentioned above.
The very last record of this name in FreeBMD is for the birth of Richard Charles HARRY in the June Qtr of 1891 in the Penzance R.D.
Checking the 1901 Census and we have the following:-
North Street, Marazion
Elizabeth J RENFREE, head, widow, 64, living on own means, Breage
Mary E HARRY, daughter, mar., 35, charwoman, St Hilary
Thomas H RENFREE, son, unm., 21, general agricultural labourer, St Hilary
Richard C HARRY, grandson, 9, Perranuthnoe
I have not yet tried to pursue the above but there are a number of points of interest to be noted.
The marriages for 1890 provide something of interest also.
Checking for the marriage of Mary E RENFREE produced two possibilities:-
One was in 1889 when Mary Elizabeth RENFREE married either James Semmens STONE or William Thomas WILLIAMS.
But there is then a marriage recorded in 1890 that becomes of more interest:-
Marriages Mar 1890 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RENFREE Mary Eliozabeth
Penzance 5c 311
Renfree Mary Elizabeth
Penzance 5c 311
On this particular page we have the names of three females but only two males as follows:-
Marriages Mar 1890 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Barratt Matthew Redruth 5c 311
George Mary Jane Redruth 5c 311
Jory Caroline Redruth 5c 311
Martin James Redruth 5c 311
RENFREE Mary Eliozabeth
Penzance 5c 311
Renfree Mary Elizabeth
Penzance 5c 311
I have tried to search for a HARRY using the above information but to no avail.
And you will note that the R.D. (Penzance) is in italics on each occasion.
I find this most intriguing given the Census indicates a marriage to someone with the surname HARRY.
I am running out of further ideas at the moment and have to et some food into me and get to bed.
If you are able to add anything to the above it would be of help but otherwise I will try to investigate further tomorrow.
Hope I have not confused you as much as I seem to be confusing myself
but I am trying to check every thought that comes to mind in an effort to solve this problem.
