Had to ask the question
as I was beginning to confuse myself!
Okay - you may have seen in other threads that I have a bit on at the moment but I will do what I can to help.
Have found the following from the St Hilary PRs
Elizabeth Jane HARRY (born 2nd December 1853) baptised 5th March 1854 at St Hilary d/o Richard (miner) and Elizabeth HARRY of Relubbus Lane
Sarah Anne HARRY (born 31st July 1858 ) baptised 16th March 1860 at St Hilary
Emma HARRY (born 29th February 1860) baptised 16th March 1860 at St Hilary
Parents - Richard (miner) and Elizabeth HARRY of Relubbus Lane
John Henry HARRY (born 22nd March 1862) baptised 6th June 1862 at St Hilary s/o Richard (miner) and Elizabeth HARRY of Relubbus Lane
John Henry HARRY (born 28th January 1864) baptised 13th March 1864 at St Hilary s/o Richard (husbandman) and Elizabeth HARRY of Higher Downs
William James HARRY (born 20th July 1865) baptised 4th February 1866 at St Hilary s/o Richard (labourer) and Elizabeth HARRY of Church Town Lane
Those are all the baptisms I can find for this family at St Hilary from 1850 through to the end of 1871.
You will notice that Sarah is 'Sarah Anne' and not 'Sarah Jane' and that there was a second John Henry.
I have just found what appears to be the correct family in the 1861 Census:-
Relubbus Lane, St Hilary
Richard HARRY, head, mar, 28, tin & copper miner, Sithney
Elizabeth do., wife, mar, 29, Sancreed
Elizabeth J do., daur, 7, St Hilary
Richard C do., son, 4, Tideford
Sarah Ann do., daur, 2, St Hilary
Emma do., daur, 1, St Hilary
Alice do., lodger, unm, 15, house maid, St Just
Now we may be getting somewhere.
From this we know that Richard was born at Sithney about 1832/3 and Elizabeth was born at Sancreed about 1831/2.
I need to check the other Census records for continuity of birthplace but we do have a starting point.
Thought I would check Sithney Baptisms before looking at the other Census records and you may find this just a little interesting:-
Richard James HARRY bp. 28th March 1832 at Sithney s/o John (miner) and Elizabeth of Breage
That might just change things a little. ;D
And then there is this little item from Sancreed:-
Elizabeth Mary Ann RENFREY bp. 3rd April 1831 at Sancreed d/o Anthony (labourer) and Sally of Boswarten
At the moment it is beginning to look very much like it is the St Germans marriage you want.
You may also find what I just found in the 1851 Census a little interesting:-
Quethiock
John HARRY, head, mar, 47, lead miner, St Ellery (St Hilary)
Elizabeth do., wife, mar, 46, miner's wife, St Winger (St Winnow? or St Minver?)
John do., son, unm., 22, lead miner, Breage
RICHD. do., son, unm, 18, lead miner, Breage
Elizabeth Ann do., daur, unm, 17, engaged in mine work, Breage
James do., son, 12, engaged in mine work, Breage
Mary Jane do., daur, 8, scholar, Perran
Alice do., daur, 4, at home, St Just
Mary POLKINHORNE, mother-in-law, mar., 73, miner's wife, Winger
I believe this is most certainly your family and we have the added bonus her of the name of John HARRY's wife via his mother-in-law.
Checking IGI for a baptism for Elizabeth POLKINHORNE and I now know that 'WINGER' is actually GWINEAR!
Elizabeth is most likely:-
Elizabeth POLKINHORN baptised 23rd August 1805 at Gwinear d/o Thomas and Mary Anne
She might also be the following although I doubt it:-
Elizabeth POLKINGHORNE (born 20th December 1806) baptised 4th January 1807 at Crowan d/o William and Mary
Thomas POLKINHORNE married Mary Anne VINICOMBE 21st April 1804 at Gwinear
** I must say that I am confident I have the right family here and, therefore, the right marriage thanks to the 1851 Census.
Quethiock is a Parish that adjoins St Germans immediately to the North.
So the marriage you want is of Richard James HARRY to Elizabeth RENTFREE (sic.) at St Germans R.D. in 1853.
And reading a little more of your earlier note I see that the daughter of Richard Charles HARRY (Elizabeth Ann) married a Joseph RENFREE.
I will let you digest all of this and then get back to moe with more comments, information and questions.
As I get the chance I will try to find a little more for you.
