I have been further exploring the family of James Rosewall c.1618 - 1680/1) and his son Andrew Rosewall (c.1640 - 1680) both of whom died at Towednack, but have connections to St. Ives.
In the case of Andrew Rosewall, as well as his will we also have the summary of the court trial he was embroiled in just before his death (see summary at webs.lanset.com/azazella/depositions.html). This is definately worth a look as it mentions or includes as witnesses some 80 people from West Penwith in 1680.
As well as the defendant Andrew Rosewall, three other Rosewalls are mentioned:
ROSEWALL, James, 26, St. Ives, Yeoman
ROSEWALL, George, St. Ives
ROSEWALL, Lowdy, 45, St. Ives, wife of George
Also we know from James Rosewall's will that he had a brother Wearne (Waerne) Rosewall. (Although I can't yet find any record of it, this suggests that James and Wearne's mother had the family name of Wearne).
Andrew Rosewall's will adds the information that he had a brother James and sister Mary, so three known children of James Rosewall.
Wearne Rosewall does not appear to have left a will, nor is there a record of his having married, although that does not preclude a marriage since there is no surviving record of James Rosewall's marriage to his wife Elizabeth.
Phillimores has the following early marriages at St. Ives & Towednack up to 1700:
Maria Rosewall m.27 Mar 1654 St. Ives to Christopher Bone
*Andrew Rosewall m.27 Jul 1661 St. Ives to Mary Stevens
Christian Rosewall m.18 Nov 1661 St. Ives to Rognald Botterall
George Rosewall m.6 Feb 1662 St. Ives to Lidia Hollman
Thomas Rosewall m.18 Nov 1674 St. Ives to Jone Paynter
*Mary Rosewall m.28 Jun 1676 St. Ives to Hugh Rosemenewas
*Cheston Rosewall m.27 Jum 1682 Towednack to Henry Major
*Margery Rosewall m.13 Feb 1689 Towednack to Michael Curnow
*Mary Rosewall (widow) m. 14 May 1690 Morice Dyer
*Wilmot Rosewall m.30 Apr 1693 Towednack to Robert Curnow
All the marriages marked with a * can be related to the children or grandchildren of James Rosewall (c.1618 - 1680/1).
Of the remaining four (Maria, Christian, George & Thomas) they are all likely to be of a roughly similar age, probably all born in the range of 1630 to no later than 1653.
Note - there are descendants of all these marriages into at least one generation (I have yet to track them further)
The spread of marriage dates and likely matching birth dates makes it quite possible that they could all be siblings. And given the relatively small number of marriages also allows the possibility of them being siblings (10 to 20 more marriages in the same time frame would likely indicate the prescence of two or more nuclear families).
Deaths at St. Ives to 1725:
Thomas Rosewall, bastard son of Tiberias Roswall 1666 at St. Ives
John Rosewall Jr, 1670 at St. Ives
John Rosewall, 1674 at St. Ives
Katherine Rosewall, 1679 at St. Ives
?* Elizabeth Rosewall (widow), 1681 at St. Ives
?* Elizabeth Rosewall (widow), 1689 at St. Ives
*Wearn Rosewall, 1689 at St. Ives
Unnamed Rosewall (s/o James), 1692 at St. Ives
*James Rosewall, 1694 at St. Ives
Margery Rosewall (d/o Thomas), 1702 at St. Ives
Thomas Rosewall, 1709 at St. Ives
Mary Rosewall (d/o Thomas & Mary), 1716 at St. Ives
Elizabeth Rosewall (widow), 1722 at St. Ives
Andrew Rosewall, 1723 at St. Ives
Jone Rosewall, 1724 at St. Ives
Again, the starred items are those associated with the family of James and Andrew Rosewall. The only question is which of the two Elizabeths (1681 or 1689) is the wife of James.
The two John Rosewalls might be a father/son and the elder John may be another brother of James & Wearne. The other widow Elizabeth is likely the wife of one of the Johns.
Although there don't seem to have been any Rosewall burials recorded at Towednack up to 1732 in the only transcriptions I have located to date, there must have been some. Andrew Rosewall and his father James would most likely have been buried there in 1680 & 1681.
The Thomas Rosewall who married Jone Paynter in 1674 had children including Margery (who died 1702) and Katherine. The Margery implies a connection to Andrew Rosewall (as this is a name used within his children and grandchildren) and if this is the case, then the only plausible relationship would have to be as a first cousin. The only known uncle of Andrew is Wearne (or perhaps John - see above).
Adding in the name Katherine as one of Thomas's children, together with the death of a Katherine Rosewall suggests that Wearne Rosewall may have married a Katherine and may have been the father of some or all of the four unaccounted for Rosewall children who married mid century - almost certainly Thomas, and possibly also Maria, Christian, George.
