G'day all,
Elizabeth (Lillie) Cornish Semmens married Alfred John Hosking in Birkenhead abt June 1906.
From Free BMD I have the following known or potential issue:
Arthur C. Hosking b. Dec 1913 Penzance vol 5c pg 381 mother Semmens (known to be Lillie) William C. Hosking b. June 1916 Penzance vol 5c pg 380 mother Semmens Doris Hosking b. June 1918 Penzance vol 5c pg 324 mother Semmens Edward L. Hosking b. March 1922 Penzance vol 5c pg 357 mother Semmens Reginald Hosking b. March 1925 Penzance vol 5c pg 307 mother Semmens.
I have found these births in Familysearch but not in Cornwall OPC and want confirmation that Lillie was the mother of all these children
I am aware that in addition to Arthur C. (Cornish) Hosking, Francis Thomas Hosking b. abt 1915 was one of Lillie's children (but not found in Free BMD, Familysearch or Cornwall OPC).
Any help or information appreciated. .

Hi there, Alfred John Hosking and Elizabeth (Lily) Cornish Semmens were married 23 June 1906 in Prenton Congregational Church. I believe that Congregationalists did hold infant baptisms but I would expect that they would not be transcribed for OPC. Francis Thomas Hosking is listed as a Dec Q 1908 birth at Penzance (RD) on free BMD, and he is found in the 1911 census with parents at 3 North Parade, Penzance I find no death record for Francis from 1911 to 1916, so I presume your Francis born about 1915 is the same guy. Alfred John Hosking died in November 1936. His funeral notice makes no mention of other children apart from Francis and Arthur (Cornishman 26 Nov 1936). By the time of funeral he was a methodist. Lily's death notice in Cornishman 24 Jan 1946 makes mention of Francis and Arthur but no other children There was a John P Hosking who married Martha J Semmens June Q 1912 Penzance RD, so this couple may be the culprits for the other children you listed. There are a couple of reasons why you cannot find these events in the OPC records - firstly the records may not be available to the OPC for transcribing and secondly, perhaps more importantly, the OPC has limits outlining the latest records that can be made public. In some cases the OPC records for a Parish may end at (e.g. 1901) which is well within the end date set for privacy reasons. The reason for that is that when the Films available to the OPC from the LDS were originally photographed an end-date of 1901 was set by the Cornwall Record Office.

Simon, thanks for that information, which indicates that Alfred John Hosking and Elizabeth Cornish Semmens had only two children, Francis and Arthur. I have since found other family information confirming this. In my spare time I'll have to have a look at the other Hosking - Semmens pair i.e. John P. and Martha J. CT, thanks for that reminder.

So many things to try and remember! We all need reminding sometimes.
