Hi Camilla - I don't speak Spanish but I do have a Spanish-English Dictionary that might help me a little. I did visit some Trewhela people in Chile back in 1994 but fortunately Ivan spoke reasonable English and was able to help me. But I do want to speak further with you and learn more of your Trewhela family so maybe we can use email or the Personal Message (PM) function of this site? CT

Time to resurrect this family again! I have just discovered the probability that Herbert Vosper and Christian Trewhella had at least one more child. Amongst the various certificates and other odds and ends I have downloaded over the years for South Africa there was one particular marriage that I could not connect. As of five minutes ago I have finally managed to make the connection! The marriage took place at Durban, Natal, South Africa 20th August 1954 between Frank LAITY age 36 and Florence Nellie LOWES (born TREWHELLA) a divorcee. Frank was born in the Transvaal in 1917 and Florence was born at Johannesburg 20th June 1908. It is only now that I have had a close look at this record and discovered that one of the witnesses was 'J H Trewhella'. After making comparisons of signiatures I can say that this witness was, without doubt, Joseph Herbert Trewhella and therefore Florence Nellie Trewhella was almost certainly a sister. CT

CT The "Kenilworth Castle" Departure list from Southampton on 6.8.1910 showed two (unnamed - one male & one female) children of H. Trewhella , so I always had a space "reserved" for the sister. Thanks for filling in the forenames, and a little of the back history. I had previously assumed that Christian had returned to England to give birth to her daughter, but no, it was a family visit with the two young children, with Florence being born in SA. It begins to fit in place. The Laity connection is interesting. My mother's cousin ( John Michael Trewhella) married a Laity in 1953! Simon

Yes, and I had some contact with their eldest son (Roger) several years ago. Frank Laity was born in South Africa but so far I have not found any details that might help with identifying his parents. In fact apart from the marriage I have not been able to find any further mention of him so far. CT
