Ian: I have come across some more Trewhellas that may be "linked" to my Martin line: Phillis Trewhella 1649 Towednack died 10 Feb.1728 Stithians, m. 1673 Lambert Martin b.1655, of Stithians. Ten children, mostly born Towednack. Phillis also called "Philipp" with birth year 1657. James Trewheller (or Trewheeler) b1615, father of Phillis, m.Blanche. James T. b1582, father of JT. Lambert`s son could be John Martin(s) 1684 (or 1677), buried 3 Feb.1730 (or 1729)...Julian cal. changes, perhaps....wife Catherine Curnow m1702, son Richard Martins 1708-1733 m1832 Christian Leggoe/Leggo/Leggow 1706-1778. Christian`s mother: Eve born 1678. This is unreliable "gen" gleaned from OneWorldTree and other web sources.

David - that is essentially how my interpretation of the lineage goes however there are some differences in dates and a couple of other things there.
Will try and look a little more closely at this later as I need to get off air in a few minutes.

Ian:....and some more. They may be distant relatives of mine and of yours. You have probably "clocked" them already and some names have come up on this Forum. Jane Trewhella born 25 Feb.1704 Towednack, d.25 March 1781, m.29 Dec.1732 Towednack, hubby Nicholas Berriman 1706-1786, Towed.. Jane`s father: William Trewhella, d.22 Apr.1732 Towed., m.23 Aug 1689 to Jane Baragwanath (b.30 Jun.1664, Towed.,d.29 Oct.1731. More details of Barag. line available. Also of Berriman. Unverified sources. My info. from "Angela Wood" off the internet (there are some Martins tucked away in her Tree. Hence my searches). David.

Thanks David - I am familiar with this lot. One thing I am not certain about is the burial date for William Trewhella. I currently show his burial date as 11th September 1719 at Towednack. The date above (22nd April 1732) is the date I show for the burial of his son William. There is nothing in the PR to suggest one or the other for either date and what is more difficult and confusing in this case is that Jane is recorded neither as 'wife of' nor as 'widow'. Must get back and work on that one again. Ian

Quick/Martin. Ian: you probably have this on your database. Thomas Quick b1808, St.Ives, son of Robert and Elizabeth, married Elizabeth Martins 28 Sept.1828, Ludgvan. I have 4 or 5 David Martins listed as possible relatives of mine, all in Ludgvan/Towednack/St.Ives area, but you probably "have" them all, courtesy of this website and other sources. D.

Hi David, Yes, I do have that marriage although I am yet to try and work out who Elizabeth Martins belongs to. As for the David Martins - I have been doing a bit of work on a couple of those overnight and I am hoping you can help me out. The two Davids in question are the two who 'conveniently' married girls named 'Mary' at about the same time (1813-15) and were both having children baptised at Towednack at the same time. Between them I came up with a total of 21 children who had to be sorted between the two families. The 1841 Census helped matters a little as David Martins of Amalveor had 7 of his children at home and David Martins of Lady Downs had 4 along with (I presume) his 75 year old mother. Some of the children from the 'long list' appear to have died prior to the 1841 Census so it is difficult to determine who they belonged to without information from the original PR which I do not have. However, I have placed them in where it would appear they should be based on baptismal dates for known children of each family. What I would like is details of the two marriages along with your own break down of the families of the two David Martins. The man at Amalveor I am sure was the son of David and Margery Martins but the bloke from Lady Downs is a different matter altogether. He was born about 1794 at either Towednack or Ludgvan (depending on which Census) but no matter where he was baptised I cannot find a record. Appreciate your help on this and will be looking more closely at the general populace of Martins in the Towednack area fairly soon. A little more work on a couple of awkward Quick problems to sort out for now. Ian

Hi, Ian, The "David"s. My info. on David Martins/Margery Eddy comes from kernow62 of Orlando, on this website. The father of DM is another DM(1735-1780), married Ann Berriman. The kernow posting is quite detailed and has led me almost to the present day through a line of distant relatives and has helped "solve" my `Cledry (Nancledra) Hill/Ferndale Cottage puzzle. On a slightly different subject: Catherine Curnow 1679-1760, m.1702 John Martins 1684( or 1677??)-3 Feb.1730. Some Ancestry "Trees" give Lambert Martin b.1655 and Phillis(?) Trewheeler 1657-1699 as parents. Other "Trees" give Catherine Ellis b1641 and George Martins 1650-1724 as parents. No specific sources quoted. Anyone any ideas? David.

Thanks David - I will search through the information from kernow62.
Now, the Catherine Curnow/John Martins problem. I have had the Trewhella link with this one for many years and still believe it to be the correct one however should there be proof that I am wrong I will happily make corrections.
I have never found this marriage but have placed it as having occurred about 1702. As this family remained at Towednack I think it is more likely that he was son of Lambert and Phillis.
Also, I have no record of George and Catherine in my database - can you tell me where they were married and if you have any further information on them?

Ian. Re: Catherine Ellis and George Martins ( b.13 Apr.1650, St.Just), married 1 Jan. 1679, Sancreed, children incl. John Martins. No source given by my contact, Angela Wood, of London. I have e-mailed her pointing out the "problem". Her data on "your" Trewhellas to which I have referred in an earlier posting have already been "clocked" by you. Angela can be contacted via Ancestry. This is an old "stamping ground" of mine!: the antecedents of Lambert Martin(s) 1655-1723, St Stithians, wife Phillis(var.) Trewheeler. Parents:David 1598-1666, wife Frances (d 8 May 1667). No problem. My "muddle" starts with David`s father John, b1580, Pendelvear, St Stith....and his father, also John (1549 Illogan?-1629 Towednack?, wife Temperance?...and his father who could be Roger b1504 (or...?). Does anyone have any data regarding Roger and son John? John may have a brother Alexander, also known as "Saundry". (My sources are not reliable) David.
