Hello, I'm investigating a Jane Hampton born circa 1845 who married Robert Barwick in 1867. Father was John Hampton (based on marriage cert and death record). The 1891 and 1901 census both mention Lelant (or "Seland" as it's transcribed from the 91 record). This Jane emigrated in Canada in 1903 - following 2 of her children - and died 1915. Another child emigrated to New Zealand (my ancestor).
Both the 1851 and 1861 census for the Jane Hampton mentioned upthread have a 1842 birthdate, but I'm wondering if it's the same Jane? Were there other Jane Hampton's born in this area around 1845? I haven't been able to find any.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Hello cousin!
Since I was unaware that this board still existed until a week ago, I missed this - lol - could have solved this 7 years earlier!
In the meantime (earlier this year) I found this Jane Hampton Barwick and all the documents associated with her played out.
I don't have everyone concerned loaded on my tree yet so going from memory:
The Durham census records show her being born at Lelant, and her age matches that of Jane Hampton, d/o John and Eliza (Glasson) Hampton.
Her marriage record gives her father as John Hampton.
Her Canadian death record gives her father's name as John Hampton, and I believe it states her birth in Cornwall.
She and John raised a granddaughter (Thomas Barwick's only surviving child from his first marriage) and there is a ship's manifest for this granddaughter as an adult, where she lists her closest relative in England as being Eliza Hampton of Lelant, Cornwall (Eliza being the eldest, never-married daughter of John and Eliza Hampton.
