Hello All :)

Hope this is may one day be of use to somebody.

Best regards
HeatherC :)

From The Manchester Guardian, Wednesday 15th January 1851

BOILER EXPLOSION IN CORNWALL - On Wednesday morning about eight o'clock, the boiler belonging to the fire whim at Alfred Consols Mine burst with such violence, as to shatter itself in fragments, and to kill one man-lander at the whim, named Anthony COCK. He was a native of the parish of Gwithian, and had left a widow and a large family to lament his loss. He was found several fathoms from the boiler-house with his clothes blown off from his body, and quite dead, so that his death must have been instantaneous.
It appears that he was lighting his pipe at the boiler fire when the sad catastrophe happened. Fortunately, the engine man was not in the house at the time, and so escaped unhurt.
It has not yet been ascertained that anyone else has met with any injuries. No blame can be attached to any agenst of the mine, as it was almost a new boiler, having only been a few weeks brought on the mine.- Cornish Gazette.

Hi Heather,

Thanks for that. This is one of my side branches to my tree.
Anthony left a 39 year old widow & eight children. Their ages ranged from sixteen down to two.

Dave.

Hello Dave :)

Only just seen your reply (17 June).

If you send me a pm with your email address I should be able to send you a scan of the newspaper clipping.

Best regards

Hi Dave,

Where does Anthony fit in with your tree? One of his granddaughters married my grandfather (though she isn't my grandmother - he remarried). Anthony's wife was also pregnant at the time: their last daughter was baptized 10 August 1851.

Hi Heather,

I'd like a copy of the newspaper clipping too, if you'd be so kind. You can find my email address under "Members".

Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,

My grandfather's sister, Lily Maud Trestrail, married Josiah Cock August 1920 in Camborne.
Josiah was born 1865 son of James Anthony Cock & Mary Ellen (Foss) & grandson of Josiah Cock & Grace (Thomas). Josiah was Anthony & Elizabeth's eldest child.

The Josiah born in 1865 was Anthony's brother. I think you meant 1889 for Anthony's son Josiah?

Anthony's sister, Louisa Catherine, married my grandfather, Edwin Jones, in Camborne in 1907. They seem to have used their middle names a lot in the family - she was always known as Katherine or Katie. They had three children, none of whom are still alive: Phyllis, Edwin William Kenneth (Ken) and Katherine Louisa. Katherine died giving birth to Katherine Louisa (who survived only two days) in 1913.
